Change your life in seven days
Mind power book that caused great changes in my life.
Written by Paul McKenna PhD (a TV personality, world famous hypnotist), the book 'promised' methods to 'change your life in seven days' and I have to admit I approached the book with a certain skepticism, having read a fair number of self-help books over the years, all of which proved useless (to someone of my character with fairly deep depression).
The book comes with the daily lessons on DVD along with a CD containing a relaxation/hypnosis that I believe to be the 'gold nugget'.
Background to my state of depression.
Having endured a number of deaths to close family members, along with losing all of my savings & business to companies who either 'conned' or went bankrupt, and eventually arriving at the position where my house was effectively going through a forced sale, I went through some very depressing thoughts and actions.
Once, I got into this depressive state, it seemed like nothing would ever go right again. Getting up in the morning became harder as each month elapsed, over eating became the order of the day, exercise became a thing of the past and generally I felt as if nothing would ever go right again. Being depressed obviously affected those around me and caused problems in relationships along with an inability to converse with others and therefore just seemed to create an ever spiraling downward force of negativity.
Once in this zone, then the only real way out seemed to be death for what would be a welcome relief. I often found that the weather had an adverse effect with dark clouds mapping directly to my state of mind, although if the sky was blue then it only seemed to herald the return of dark clouds. Anyway, it seemed to me that there was no real way out of the depressive state I was in and I often found that if I invested in a self-help book, I would start reading enthusiastically only to find by half-way through the book, my belief and interest had totally faltered.
The chance shopping trip.
Out one day in June 2010, a rare trip with my wife in a local supermarket, I wandered down the book aisle in the hope of finding something to read and chanced across the 'change your life in 7 days' as part of a 'buy one get one free offer' – I picked it up and decided to have a browse through sometime.
In July 2010, I decided it was time to look through the book and was amazed at the clarity and simple style that made change seem so easy – this was completely different to anything I had read before. I could feel from the opening pages that for something that cost me a fraction of other self-help packages would prove to be very beneficial. One of the key aspects about this book that intrigued me was the fact that Paul claimed that these exact same methods were used by himself to become a major success and find happiness and fulfillment in his life.
Book contents
It is obvious that the contents of the book and advice given relies on a mixture of psychology and hypnotism, but, put across in a way that was uncomplicated and easy to read and understand. The book is laid out in seven main chapters to be read at the rate of one per day – each chapter contains easy exercises to complete as part of a daily routine:

- The power of a positive perspective – The art of reframing
- Dreamsetting – Discover what you truly want and make your dreams come true
- Healthy Foundations – Creating and maintaining a healthy body, mind and spirit
- Creating Money – Discovering the secrets of the millionaires mind
- Happily ever after – Live the secrets of life-long happiness – now!
The mind power booster that really changed it for me
The book comes with a CD attached which contains a 'relaxation' / hypnosis session. This for me was the real changer and I have used it twice a day as a start to clearing my depression and really changing my life. The results of this routine has been outstanding in terms of removing depression and ensuring a happy, calm, optimistic outlook on life.
Following 3 sessions, my head cleared completely, I start seeing everything as just an event in my life that I had to overcome and to be honest, even though my financial problems remain (as of August 2010), I feel like I can take on the world and be happy doing it. The specific changes that occurred within a few days were:
- Getting up in the morning - I used to get up around 10AM with a heavy heart. Now I'm up around 5:30AM looking forward to the day.
- Acid reflux fixed - I know this sounds crazy, but I was under the doctor for a number of years and taking medication for acid reflux. This has now stopped and very rarely do I have stomach disorders
- Regular exercising - Every morning, I undertake at least 20 mins of fairly hard exercise. Amazingly I actually enjoy it!
- Renewed interest in life - I started this blog, which is the first positive thing I've done in two years. I also, have ideas again for restarting in business and am busy planning at the moment.
All in all, life has changed so positively that I cannot recommend this book enough. Obviously I don't know if it will work for everyone, but, I do know that I am hard to hypnotize and can definitely say that something has trained my mind to give it this new power.
My success, I can only put it down to Paul's book and I thank him for it.
